Office
Lindqvist Ekroos Architects was founded in 2014 and works from a former printing house in Vallila, Helsinki. There are twelve of us. We design schools, day-care centres, housing and renovations, and enter two or three architectural competitions a year.

History
- 2014Johanna Lindqvist and Olli Ekroos founded the office in spring 2014. The first job was a 14 m² garden sauna in Sipoo; the office was a 38 m² room in Sörnäinen. The sauna section still hangs on our wall because the bench heights were drawn wrong, which nobody noticed until the benches were in.
- 2019We moved to the second floor of a former printing house in Vallila. There were seven of us.
- 2021First public building: Sammalkallio day-care centre, procured with 60 % weight on quality.
- 20231st prize in the invited competition for Honkaniitty School, our largest project so far at 6,340 m².
- 2024Saara Vehviläinen became the third partner. Sammalkallio opened in August.
- 2026Honkaniitty and Lehvä are on site at the same time. There are twelve of us.
How we work
- 01Timber as structure, not surface
Nine of our last eleven new buildings have a timber frame. We calculate the carbon footprint of two frame options at competition or sketch stage, so the choice rests on numbers.
- 02Repair before demolition
When a building is considered for demolition, we first write a repairability survey. Four of six surveys have ended in repair, Puistokulma in Turku among them.
- 03One lead designer from start to finish
The lead named in the tender stays until the two-year warranty inspection. Saara Vehviläinen attended all 64 site meetings at Sammalkallio.
- 04Competitions in office hours
Entries are drawn in working hours, 600 hours at most. We list the competitions where we did not place, too.
